This is it, the grand finale!!

After a crucial (but not totally unexpected) INT by Brett Farve on Minnesota's final drive and the Colts not making the same mistakes the Chargers did a week ago it's time for a real Showdown of the two teams who were by far the best during almost all of the season!!

New Orleans Saints vs. Indianaoplis Colts

I tried for two weeks to come up with any reason why the Saints would win the Super Bowl other than sympathy and my disliking of Peyton Manning... I just couldn't!!!

They're D is slightly better and Manninig is gonna pick them apart. Probably not for the whole game, but definitely enough to be at least one score better than the Saints in the end. I mean if not for a brainfart by the Vikings #4 (man, that felt good-I'm sure all of Wisconsin was popping Champagne at that moment, if they where still watching), they Saints wouldn't even be here and the reigning MVP is just not gonna do them any favour like that!

After coming within one Overtime-TD of sweeping the wildcard predictions, I find it much harder to come up with the next round. Especially so because I didn't have time to watch the Packers-Cardinals shootout and will leave for LA (Lei-out) tomorrow, so no team to watch the rerun either...

San Diego and Dallas are a lock in my mind, as I can see both of them going into the Super Bowl, but the other two can go either way! Here we go!

and after a few heartwrecking minutes in the end, as it looked like Switzerland and Italy might end up in the same group or that Switzerland would get the "pool of death" with Brazil and Cote d'Ivoire... In the end it all ended perfectly well with this result:

Italy has by far the easiest group (for once) which should net them 1st place and help avoiding a supertough 1/8-finals against The Netherlands!! And as the Azurri usually get better the longer the tournament goes they seem to be in good shape for a repeat!

Switzerland definitely has the 2nd place up for grabs as Spain should cruise for 1st in that group, but Honduras and Chile are both beatable and with nothing to lose in the first match against Spain the Swiss should be ready to go and exploit whatever weaknesses they will see in the match between the other two teams!! if they can pull it of, a killer 1/8-final against Brazil is looming (or whoever end up winning the "pool of death")

Alright, 6 months left and a lot to look forward too... can't wait!

A whole lot of acronyms for 8 days I know, but as I'm not a winter person I had to flee the cold in Switzerland once again for a few days and the LAout beach tournament seemed to be a good choice... than one thing came to another and all of a suddden you end up in Las Vegas but why don't we start with the beginning!

The whole idea with flying from Munich to L.A. started when Alex (a Sexxxpensive player from Munich) told me about really cheap flights and we had only 4 more days to book them. all that while I was still deciding if I wanted to go or not...
a few hours later we had already booked our flights and several months later I was on the train on my way to munich on a Wednesday night. Once I got there Lisa (Woodchicas) picked me up at the train station and we went to the Wassermann ( a local bar and my star sign) for a few beers and Mojitos, which ended with me and Alex heading home for one last beer and bedtime around 2ish.

The next day we were all 3 ready for a long day of traveling, already awating the SoCal warmth, sunshine and a prearranged BBQ at Chrissy's place (a friend of a friend) where we would stay for the night. The first flight to Chicago (ORD) went well and uneventful, altough it was a stupid United who didn't serve any free alcohol on an intercontinental flight... what's up with that?!?

Anyway, we were really happy that we made our connection and the plane was ready for take-off when the real adventure began!
There already was this wierd smell, something chemical or burned, that right after take-off some kind of alarm went off and didn't stop for several minutes. Later, Alex saw a stewardess with a fire extinguisher in her hand behind us and I sensed that we're going down again!! Shortly after that, the captain announced that it was a fire alarm that went off in the back!!! Probably a false alarm, but they didn't want to take any chances and we were heading back to Chicago. The toughest moment for me was when we were suddenly accelerating heavily and the crew started to run around in the aisles! Luckily we slowed down afterwards and landed safely a few minutes later. We all got the chance to leave the airplane and got somethingto eat, while they inspected our aircraft. About an hour or two later we could board the same plane again, hoping this was the right decision... A few hours later we landed safely in L.A. and caught a cab to Orange; too late for the BBQ, but in one piece!!! And still early enough to see our friends and have a well deserved welcome GT!
The next day already answered the question if it was worth flying 12 hours for 6 days on the West Coast of the US... I got up around 9ish, made myself a huge cup of coffee and went out into the backyard. There I was standing in front of the swimming pool, hot tub and hammock to my left, lawn and patio to my right. Me barefeet, wearing nothing but shorts and shades... so in the hammock I went, sun in my face enjoying my day - sometimes life is too good to be true!!!

It got even better from there, as Chrissy works at Disneyland and managed to get us all in for free!!!!!!!!! And after a great day (Disneyland can be so much fun, especially with the right people:-), we spent about 2-3 hours in their hot tub before heading out to the Woodies team hotel in Marina del Rey where we would stay for the tournament.Thanks a lot for everything Chrissy, that was awesome!!!!!!

After a solid breakfast by the pool and under palm trees, the tournament started with a quick round of hello's to the once we haven't seen earlier and off we were for the first game. The sun was shining all day, it was really warm (about 25°), the water was cold and we needed some time to adjust to each other. we won all our games except for the one which left is good shape for the eliminary rounds on Sunday. All in all good day at the beach, with plenty of room to improve which we were all sure we wuld accomplish the next day!

After another great hot tub session we went to a near by italian restaurant with good food, good wine and our whole team in good mood!!! Good times, Woodies!!!!! After dinner most went to bed, and about 7 of us kept on going to the party. We didn't last long tough, as the music got really crappy as soon as we got there... it was a nice location and the place was packed, just the sound was to monotonous for our taste and definitley wrong to cheer up our tired bodies and minds. So went back home about an hour later, getting some sleep for Sunday.

Thanks to the good preparation the night before (quality hottub time) and another huge breakfast burrito (or similar) we were ready to play on sunday morning and played a lot better than the day before. We convincingly made our way to quaters were we got a great start against CGNU and went up a couple breaks after to huge layout Ds. Until then all looked great before we suddenly started to throw disks right at defenders, obviously confused about who was playing with us and who wasn't... that's what happens when a bunch of friends play against each other or was it something else?!? Anyway CGNU took the game after a great fight and went on the win the whole thing! And the Woodies once more lost to the team who would win it all... obviously good karma to kick out the Woodies in L.A.

After that we tried to have another game against LMLP, which didn't work out so instead we enjoyed the sun, the beach and each others company and tried to get rid of all the Bavarian tap water that was left, which we did a pretty good job at... especially Jesse and I who had be working on it all morning already:-) Good Times!!!

The next day we spent with some shopping at REI, a food stop Taco Bell (just for you Rocky) and the route to Las Vegas. On the way we ran into a 1$ Beer and Hot Dog offer!!!! WoooooW!!!! How can you resist to an offer like that??? of course you can not, what a great day of eating ;-)
Later e finally got into Vegas, made a photo stop at the sign and checked in at the Circus Circus. And shortly thereafter we were on our way too another crazy night out in craziest city of the all... The usual mix of gambling, dancing, drinking, gambling, me winning money at roulette and getting out of the casino being surprised about the bright sunshine outside:-)) Back to the hotel for an hour of sleep (at most) and out for a little shopping trip... First to the A&F store, than to the Outlet Mall and from there directly to the airport. Here's were I had to leave my German Crew behind who would stay for 2 more days, while I was flying to back to LA to catch my flight to Munich a few hours later. Thanks Mel, Lisa, Rü, Alex and Ralph for a great time!!!

Oh and btw, I can highly recommend to stay up all night and day in Las Vegas prior to an 11h flight, as I managed to sleep 9h straight... in Economy Class nontheless :-)) Viva Las Vegas!!!

All fresh I took the S-Bahn to munich centre to meet up with Jens and spend a night at his place. We decided to go out for a beer, which ended up being a great night as well as we got home at around 2.30 on an ordinary wednesday... good job Jens to go work the next morning!!! I only had to catch my train back home aroudn noon and another 5 hours later is back home again!

EUCF - Euro Ultimate Club Finals in Paris

It's that time of the year again, where the top 16 european Club Teams gather somewhere in Europe to crwon the best of them... This year it will be from 31. October to 2. November in the beautiful City of Paris!!!

After a year of rebulding in 2007, which resulted in a bad showing at last years EUCF and therefore a bad seeding for this year, the Flying Angels are trying to fight back! It won't be an easy task, as we face fierce competition in probably the toughest Pool with the reigning Champ Clapham London, Ragnarok (Denmark,Silver Medalist from EUC 2005) and VIF Ultimate the 2nd best team from Sweden. With only the Top 3 advancing, just making it out of the Pool games will be agood thing, no matter in which place!!!

The good news is that afterwards it should get "easier" with a possible pre-quarter with the likes of Feldrenner (German Champion) or Freespeed (2nd best Swiss Team) followed by a possible quarter match-up with Jack-Suns (F) or HUT (Fin) or similar. Which all of course are not easy to beat (remeber: it's the 16 best Teams in Europe!!) but compared to playing Clapham or Skogs (S) for a semi's birth I allow myself to use the term "easier"!

To sum this up, if we survive the Pool of death, everything up to a semi's spot looks doable, but there is still a lof of ultimate to be played and if we're out on day 1 already there's nothing to be ashamed off.

At the same time I wish all the best of luck to my good friend Rocky and his Revolver squad at the UPA Nationals (which is the American equivalent of the EUCF and still the toughest tournament in the world)!!! Their seeded 5th and it seems their ready for their first semi-final appearance at least!!

I'm excited!!! You should be too!

Right before leaving for Vancouver we found out there is a new schedule (again... ridiculous), but the good news is that we have now been in Vancouver for about a day and it is still the same!!!!

And with the opening ceremony set to start in about an hour or two it's safe to say it that this how we are gonna play this week:

WUGC Update

looks like after several schedule revisions and complete renewels, we finally got us a winner... (at least it's marked as final schedule for the first time!) and this is how it looks for us:

The top 4 make it to the upper pools which include 4 pools of 3 teams. Another round of round robin will be played, with the winners of those pools getting directly into Quarters. The other 2 teams from each pool, will have a 2-3 crossover game, serving as the pre-quarters. From there on it's knockout phase with ranking games all the way to the finals.

If the seeding holds up we would meet Canada and Italy in the second round and then Ireland again in the pre-quaters, before facing the USA (Sockeye) in the quarterfinals... Nice draw but there is a lot of high-level Ultimate in the way that could change our path either way!!

Anyway, I like our team and I can't wait to finally get this tournament started!!!!!!!!!!!

And what a great party it was, it's defo a lot of fun to be in the country where the event is held... good times no matter which host city I visited (zurich and Basel) and even a lot bigger euphoria in Winterthur than usual!! Too bad the Swiss team got kicked out so early though would have been fun to see if the Swiss can go as crazy as the Dutch did in Bern...

Congratulations to Spain for being a deserving winner, being the only team to play convincing from start to finish (except for the Italian game, but it's hard to play well when Italy is in destroying only mode).

The Andrea Pirlo Award (for the best player overall who doesn't even get that credit in his own team) goes to Marcos Senna who I would have voted as the best/most important player of this championship.

If not for Spain those Euro's would have gone into history as the tournament with the most teams winning that actually played worse than their opponent... efficiency in striking being the big factor here!! as almost all the teams were so close together (with the exceptions of Poland and Greece), there were tons of games that wen't the wrong way with one lucky strike (all the turkey matches, incl. the semis... and many, many in the group stages) and even clear looking games could have easily gone the other way with better strikers on one side (ned-fra, ned-ita, esp-rus part 1...)
but than again that's probably the reason why soccer is so popular... not many goals so anything i possible until the last second!!!!

but Italy has a reason to celebrate as well as Donadoni, the guy who wanted them to go for penalties against Spain from the first second on and said that he was pleased with the way the way they played after the match, got fired and Marcello Lippi, the guy who played with 4 strikers in overtime against Germany in 2006 because he didn't want to go to the penalty lottery, is coming back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Campioni del Mondo!!!!!!!!

oh and last thing, did you see what happens to Germany when they finally play against a good goalkeeper??? Clearly without Ricardo and Rüstü they would not have made it even close to the finals...

Tiger vs. Federer

Well, my ongoing debate of who is more dominant of those two hasn't been much of a contest this year but the year is still young so I'll keep an eye on this... Tiger hasn't won any Majors yet and Federer can still save his season with a win at the French Open! But then again, I wouldn't bet on Federer winning another Laureus Award...

Oh and a nice little quote from the guy who lost to Tiger on sunday, Bart Bryant:
"It's just incredible. Just what he did today is another evidence of this weird zone he's in, and he's been in it like his whole life."

... but here is THE reason why you should!!! TIGER WOODS!!!!!!!

I have to admit I would never watch or care about a golf tournament where Tiger is not playing, but whenever he's teeing up my eyes are glued to the TV (if I can) or at least I'm checking out the scores and look up highlights on the net!

He's just so ridiculously good and so dominating his sport as probably no one EVER has in any sports!!! I know he's still in the middle of his career, but already he's accomplished more then other golfer before him (except for 2) and his winning percentage is just unbelievable and totally unmatched in this sport!! The only two players who have won more tournaments than Tiger's 64 are Sam Snead with 82 and Jack Nicklaus with 73. Snead had to play 423 tournaments to get there (.193 winning pct.) and Nicklaus was even worse with 450 (.162).

Tiger has only played 219 tournamnets so far!!! Which equals a winning pct. of almost 30% (.292) and the last 2 years his numbers were closer to 50%; (8 of 15 in 2006 and 7 of 17 in 2007) and he has won 9 out of his last 10 tournaments he played world wide (7 out of 8 on the PGA tour) with a lousy 2nd place being his other finish during that stretch...

Simply put he's the most dominant athlete in any given sport this world has ever seen, especially if you consider that he has to beat 70-150 opponents everytime he plays!!! So if you like sports enjoy every minute of this unique display of greatness as you might as you might never see it again!

General Sports Update

what a year it has been already, full with surprises (Super Bowl, Aussie Open), persuit of perfection - aborted (Patriots) and as silly as it sounds started a new (Tiger Woods) and spectaculer trades (Detroit Tigers, LA Lakers, Suns, Dallas) and a BIG ? (Federers health).

Personally I'm totally bummed out about how badly and uninspired AC Milan played all season and especially vs. Arsenal, but I couldn't be happier about the Lakers's chances of winning it all this year thanks to the grand theft of Pau Gasol!! Anyway, make sure you watch as much of the Western Conference Playoffs as you can!!! I'm sure there have never been Playoffs with so many goods teams from top to bottom!! Nr. 1 eliminates Schalke and Fenerbahçe
Nr. 2 eliminates Barcelona, ManU, Arsenal, and Roma
Nr. 3 eliminates Chelsea and besides how many people counted Liverpool already out after the first two games of pool play???

Alright, I alredy heard it enough that my football predictions weren't all that good, and I admit that even tough my record is still at 50%, I had some pretty bad calls... thanks to a good part to the NY Giants!!

So what should I make of this? The Patriots going for 19-0, the undefeated season, who outside of NY doesn't want to see this??? Isn't that what watching sports is all about, being part of an unforgetable moment like this?? Who doesn't like to watch history being made? Of course, if the Ginats win they'll make istory as well as probably the biggest upset in Super Bowl history but it won't be the same.

What a wierd weekend that was last week and therefore I only got 1 of 4 right, but honestly other than blowing the Seahawks-Packers game you can't really blame me on anything!! Who knew that the Chargers would overcome a loss of their star RB, TE and QB and still win in Indianapolis or that they could win there no matter what to start with...
And the Cowboys - how could they possibly blow this game??? so many mistakes, dropped passes, allow a TD in the last 40 seconds before half after they had it all wrapped up otherwise, the O-Line falling apart in the 4th quarter... the Giants really have no business being here!!

So here are my picks for this week:

New York Giants @ Green Bay Packers

NO WAY the Giants can pull this off, NO WAY they beat aother better team on the road!!! The Packers are going to the Super Bowl.

San Diego Chargers @ New England Patriots

19-0... looks more and more realistic!!! The Chargers surely won't roll over and quit, but the Pats should win in it in the end, with a ton of short passes and Tom Brady being as perfect as ever! Plus New England has already seen every possible defensive scheme, so nothing should San Diego brings should throw them off!!!
Advantage Patriots!

Not the Super Bowl I wanted to see (Patriots-Cowboys), but nevertheless a good one to watch!!

As I'm almost on my way to Munich for another Indoor Tourney (the famous Zamperl Cup), this is gonna be really short...

Last week I was 3 out of 4!!! woo-hooo, too bad the only game I bet on, was the one I lost... anyway, here are my predictions for this week:

With 4 heavy favourites at home it's clear that there is gonna be (at least) one upset and I'm going with.... "drumroll"..... the Seahawks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! their defense impressed me that much last week, that I believe in them taking over Brett Favre at Green Bay!

The other winners are New England, Indianapolis and Dallas. Have a nice weekend!

PS. Dallas only if T.O. is ready to play, if not I go with New York instead.

Jacksonville Jaguars @ Pittsburgh Stellers

If this game was in Jacksonville, I'd give the Steelers 0% chance but at home they might just have a chance against one of the hottest teams in the NFL... mhhh, the best overall defence and 3th best rush defense (Pitt) against the 2nd best running game in the league with a solid QB... Should be a very close game, altough Jacksonville played way better in the last few weeks and already won in Pittsburgh this year... so I'll go with the Jaguars!

Tennessee Titans @ San Diego Chargers

Another close call, their season meeting already went to overtime, as the Titans will do a good job at shuting down LT. So it could depend on the play of QB Rivers who has to overcome last years poor playoff outing and their defense to come up with some big plays instead! Anyway, I think San Diego learned from last years loss and will find a way to win their first playoff game in ages... W Chargers!

New York Giants @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers

I know, it's the Gaints and Eli but is there any way they can not win this game after their guttsy performance they delivered against New England last week??? I mean they had them for almost 50min, the end of the perfect season seemingly already written... ok, they still blew it in the end, but it should give them enough confidence to beat a reeling Bucs team. Come on Eli, don't let me down on this one... the Giants win!

Washington Redskins @ Seattle Seahawks

Two of the winnigest coaches and two star running backs will face off in the match up. Seattle ahd one of the easiest schedules and won a crappy NFC West, while the Redskins had to fight their way through the NFC East with no team finishing under .500. Plus they are the hottest team in the NFC and should be able to pull off the road victory in a tough to play Qwest Field... Washington Redskins!

X-Mas Cup Karlsruhe

Last weekend, a few Sky Hawks, Solebängers and a guy from Klopstock set out to play at the X-Mas Cup under the more than fitting name "Sky Bangers"... and what a blast we had!!! We already closed out the Welcome party at 5ish after finally getting tired of mulled wine and beer or for other reasons. Nevertheless we crushed our first opponent 20-3 and finished first of our pool after winning the second game as well. We played really fast and had a lot of fun, but after our first big break we lost our timing and our D got lost somewhere between a lack of sleep, beer and being only 6 players... so we lost the 3 remaining games of the day, all following the same pattern - tight until 9-9ish and than getting our asses whupped in the end!!

On to the party, where we could unfold our full potential;-) After some good dinner (lots of pizza+pasta) we went to the party, where Roooney and I immediately took over the foosball table and didn't lose all night!!! That's right germany, UNBEATEN!!! We also rocked the dance floor all night together with our girls, the "5 christchindli" until they closed the party location... thanks for a great party everyone!!!!

Yeah well, the next day obviously was hard, but we never gave up the fight and managed to win our last game 18-17 after starting out 3-8... what a game, and can someone explain how two teams can combine for 35 points in 25 minuntes???? WOW! The 5 christchindli came in 4th place in the end, after their only losses being their last two games! Anyway, I'm sure everybody had a great weekend and I can't wait for next year's X-MAS CUP!!!

Once again I went to one of the most fun Indoor tourneys (together with Xmas Cup Karlsruhe and Zamperl Cup Munich) last weekend in Alpnach, near Lucerne... It just has the unbeatable combo of playing, partying and sleeping within 100m and one of the most charming party places you will find! It's in a little hut, surrounded by an almost small patch of wood which is just a perfect fit for the xmas time... Anyway, party was the usual blast a good mix of laid back conversation and wild dancing and of course playing with FAB and winning the tourney again after some hard-fought matches made the weekend even sweeter!!! No pictures, sorry as my camera still has some Lanzarote sand in it... might be better anyway, though ;-)

My apologies if you won't get certain things, but it's not my fault you weren't there... so here they come from bottom to top!

10. Watching a jockey less horse winning a race on TV at an Irish Pub, while waiting for our food (burgers, fries, eggs…) which we got about 15min before our next game!!! Hmmm, yummy!!!!!!!! Good thing some of our opponents were with us so we still managed to win;-) (and of course we made it there on time; canary island time:)))

9. Italy beating Scotland; didn’t even see it which probably saved me about ten heart strokes but it sure helped having a great party that night!!!

8. Getting from snowy Switzerland to sunny and warm Lanzarote, going for a swim in the Atlantic Ocean just a few hours after freezing our asses off is really mindblowing!!!!

7. The music chair… an absolute phenomenon at this tourney! Whoever sits on it, starts to sing a matching song to every word someone tells him/her… sometimes even to a word just out of a conversation two other people have next to it. The tricky thing is, that the music chair changes from time to time, so you never know which one it is;-)

6. The longest half/timeout ever in any sports at any time in the known universe… in fact hasn’t ended yet and will probably go on till Lanzarote next year!

5. First day of play, the sun is shining and the hormones go crazy… that’s were the "Love Stories" were developing; a great set of pictures and pretty much the running gag of the weekend!!!!

4. Dancing right on the beach with the feet in your sand… what a great thing to do, especially when our two slightly drunk dance couples kept on falling down several times ; once only a few seconds apart! What a blast!!!

3. Hanging out with no limit at the sidelines, nuff said!!

2. Playing 4 people coed air hockey in a (f)unbeatable combination of Baba/Bäri vs. Zampi/Sili! Every game was hard thought; with trash talk everywhere… we should have clearly filmed this one! Zampi and I go into the one year break with a comfy 3-2 lead :)
Side note: Each one has a goalie, playing in the normal air hockey position, the other two stay in the middle right next to each other on one side, but are not aloud to cross the middle line… That’s all the rules! Go ahead and try it!

Yes, I'm going to Lanzarote for the first time!!!! I'll be there from the 15th to the 19th and I'm so excited!!! I'm going to play with a really fun team, named No Limit, which is a coed mix of Swiss and Italian Players plus a Spanish Girl. I heard it's a beautiful Island and judging by the other Canarian Islands I've been to so far (Gran Canaria and Tenerife) I'm not worried at all :-)))

I've been really busy working and partying lately, so I couldn't do any posts on UPA Nationals as I intended to so here just a few remarks and thoughts i had after reading the writeups and results.

- How many Callahan's were there?? It seemed every game saw at least one!!! This is just crazy, I wonder what people think who were actually there... Is there an official stat on this? Let me know...

- What an incredibly dominant performance by Fury!!! They crushed all their opponents, with their closest game being a 15-8 in quarters... Way to take care of bringing another title to San Francisco and averting a Seattle sweep in the three main divisions!!

- Looks like Sockeye has taken over the reign in the open division from their rivals Furious George with taking 3 out of the last 4! And they shut the door on yet another unsuccesful run at the title by Jam out of San Francisco with a in semis!! Too bad, I was really hoping that Jam would make it this year...

- the young condors team with Löru couldn't pull any upset victorys and even finished below their seed after losing to GOAT in prequarters. Let's see what Löru has to say about it on his blog. Sorry dude! :-( Hope u had a good time anyway!

... Boston Red Sox!!! And what a sweep it was, all the games were hard fought excpect for game 1 but all the Rockies rallies came up short in the end. All in all my picks weren't all that bad, as I said whoever wins the Boston-Cleveland series in 7 is gonna beat the Rockies in 5. Well, you'd expect me to be happy now, wouldn't you... Yeah well, not exactly altough I always thought that the Rockies wouldn't win it all I just couldn't help it to start rooting for the underdog/cinderella team against the "New Yankees" as I startet to call them after J.D. Drew hit a Grand Slam in game 1... Now let's see who ends up with A-Rod in the end and we can make the name change official ;-)

So far I'm 3 out of 4, even though the Red Sox-Angels series wasn't nearly as close as I expected... And my reason why the Cubs would win completel backfired as Lou Piniella killed the Cubs hopes of winning it already in Game 1 by taking out Carlos Zambrano at least an Inning or two to early, which lead to the go ahead Homerun with the next batter... Needless to say how important it would have been for that series to steal the first game on the road vs. Arizona's ace Brandon Webb...

So here we go with the LCS...

NLCS:
Colorado Rockies vs. Arizona Diamondbacks

As good as Arizona has played against the Cubs, I just don't see them overcome the hottest team on the planet!! Other than that they're two really similar teams, with a few good veterans but mainly thriving of young guns (Tulowitzky, Holliday, Young, Drew) and a very solid pitching staff. Rockies in 6

ALCS:
Cleveland Indians vs. Boston Red Sox

This series is too close to call!!! The Red Sox counter Cleveland's 1-2 punch of Sabathuia and Carmona with two of the most successful pitchers in recent playoff history (Beckett and Schilling). And both teams have a lot of firepower as well with the likes of Ortiz, Ramirez, Lowell, Hafner, Sizemore, Martinez... so it might just be little things making the difference here... So this pick might be made out of nostalgia (thanks, Major League), but it's really a coin flip anyway so why not! Indians in 7

And who ever wins this is still going to handle the Rockies in 5 to win the World Series!

Time for my Playoff predictions, just so I can say I knew it all the way or you can give me shit about it...

NLDS:
Colorado Rockies vs. Philadelphia Phillies

This series features the two hottest teams, who only made into the playoffs thanks to incredible finishes down the stretch! So this was is hard to call, but after the Rockies came through in the tiebreaker game against CY-Young frontrunner Jake Peavy and All-Time saves leader Trevor Hoffmann I can't see how they're going to be denied in this one. Rockies in 4

Chicago Cubs vs. Arizona Diamondbacks

This is gonna be the game of the underdogs, as both teams struggled lately. It's gonna be old against young and I'll give the edge to the veteran cubs, specially for their Manager Lou Piniella who will provide the fire and energy to win this one. Cubs in 4

ALDS:
Los Angeles Angels vs. Boston Red Sox

Both clubs have excellent starting pitchers and a very reliable bullpen (except for Boston's Eric Gagne), so it's gonna be interesting if the the Red Sox big guns can win over the Angels small ball... Every game is going t be very close, that's why I go with Boston for having the best clutch hitter in Big Papi and the more potent lineup in general. Red Sox in 5

New York Yankees vs. Cleveland Indians

Is this finally the year where A-Rod can win a World Series and come throug for the Yankees in the playoffs? It sure looks like it, as the Indians have lost all 6 regular season games against NY. You know what? I don't give a shit! They have the best 1-2 punchin baseball right now in C.C. Sabathia and Fausto Carmona, which should be huge in a 5 game series. I'm sure the Yankees would win a 7 game series, but I can't see them taking 2 games away from this duo. Even though A-Rod will play a great series, but it won't be enough to take the Yankees to victory (unless Carmona collapses in his first Playoffs). Indians in 5

btw. the extended forecast looks like this... Rockies over Cubs in 6, Indians over Boston in 7 and finally Indians over Rockies in 5 to finally end Colorado' improbable run to repeat St. Louis feat from last year.

It was Regionals weekend at the west coast so here a little update on what happened:

Southwest Region: Good news first

Johnny Bravo from Colorado beat the Santa Barbara Condors 17-16 to advance to Nationals, sending the Condors to the recovery game against SD United (San Diego). They handeld the tough loss easily though and rolled over SD winning 15-5 and going back to Nationals... so no surprise there!!! Which means that my pal from FAb and Swiss National Team Lorü is going back to Florida for his second time after 2005, where they lost all the games in pool play to drop out of contention early. Good luck, Löru!! Check out his blog (#29 in the USA in my links), if you understand german :-)

Northwest Region: No Cinderella story this time

Well, well what should I say!! After being last years Cinderella story, Revolver was bound to prove it belonged to the top teams in the nation! After a win at Regionals over JAM they got the second seed and cruised through pool play, making it the top 4 with Sockeye, Furious Ge0rge and JAM. They lost their first chance at Nationals with 15-10 against JAM, but they had still too more shots. After Furious beat Sockeye, Revolver got their next chance against Sockeye but couldn't come up with a W either!

Which set them up for their final game for 4th place against Rhino from Portland knowing that only the Top4 teams would advance. Rhino lost in pool play to Furious but came back to this 4th place final ny winning it's recovery games. So far I don't know how the game was, but it ended 14-13 Rhino... ending Revolver's (with my really good friend Rocky) season and crushing their hopes of a repeat from last years fairy tale!!!

Final results: 1. JAM 2. Sockeye 3. Furious 4. Rhino

European Nationals aka EUCF

With only 4 days to go until first round pool play starts, here a little update on how the whole thing works. The European Ultimate Champions Final (=UPA Nationals) is the final tournament for the 16 best European club teams. Each of them had to qualify by being in the top X teams of their country (=UPA Sectionals) and then make the Top 4 of their respective Region (=UPA Regionals). Now to this years final... as mentioned earlier I'm playing with Flying Angels Bern (FAB) and we qualified as Swiss Champion and by winning our region. As our Region didn't fare to well last year, we only got the 6th seed which brought us into Pool C together with Zamperl from Munich (3 seed), Chevron from UK and Karhukopia (Fin) who kicked us out last year in Pre-Quarters. (our only defeat that year, which equaled 9th place in the end...)

Our schedule on Friday:

08:30 Karhukopia Field 2
11:50 Chevron Field 1
15:10 Zamperl Field 1

It will be really important to win the pool, to guarantee a spot in Quarters and grabbing a good seed!!! A 2nd or 3rd place would mean to go into Pre-Quarters and face one of the heavy favourite teams such as Skoggshyddan (S-defending Champ) or Clapham (UK). Oh yeah, and the 4th place team can pretty much go home...

And yet again it was an absolut blast!!! No words can discribe how much fun I had this over those 4 days and nights, with the only bad thing being our loss in the finals 13-11 to Cota Rica. Nevertheless we gave them I good fight even though we were clearly undermanned, especially after our 3 Danes had to leave in the middle of the final to catch their flight... great planning on their side!! but hey, Cota was a worthy winner, after losing the last two finals by 1 point. We also came in 2nd in spirit and were defo high up on most peoples list for best costumes...

And our party entrance was legendary as well, thanks to our cheer (good job, Thor) which is XXX-rated so I can not print it here, sorry folks :-)

Yes, I know it's unbelieveable, but exactly today 20 years ago I went to my first frisbee practise... and since then I never looked back!!! 20 years, with no regrets, no boredom, no doubt!!! Man, so many great memories and as many moments to come that I'd have never experienced without Frisbee, so I'm so thankful for that day (see date on photo), when the Sky Hawks held a Frisbee clinic for kids at a Cross Country Event for schoolboys named "Volksbank Schüler Grand Prix". It was the first time I've heard about Frisbee being a sport, with different events and the next day I went to my first practise!!20 years... I can't believe it!!!!!!!! And still I'm not tired of throwing or just watching a disc flying through the air...

Btw. You ask yourself why the disc is pink??? It was the f*** 80's man, what did u expect?!?

1. Federer did it again!!! 7-6, 7-6, 6-4 over Djokovic for his 4th consecutive US Open title and his 12th Grandslam triumph in his career!!! This leaves him only 2 behind Pete Sampras in 2nd place on the all time list!

2. Tiger has won his 60th tournament on the PGA Tour!!! At the age of almost 31 he's by far the youngest player to get to 60 victories, almost 6 years younger than the likes of Jack Nicklaus, Ben Hogan, Arnold Palmer and Sam Snead!!!

Who's more dominant??? Only the future will tell who can stay on top longer, so far it's pretty close to a coin flip...

I just played the second out of three weekends of the Swiss Championships with the Sky Hawks from my hometown and we had a blast!!! Not only did we win all 4 games we had (which means we're still unbeaten this year), we also partied hard on saturday night.

5 things u should know about sports

1. Flying Angels won they're Qualifyer for EUCF in Basel (5.-7. Okt.) happening last weekend in Ravenna (I). We won by beating Mucche, Salutami and Freespeed in pool play and then by beating COTA in a hardfought Final 11-10!! Good stuff!!!

2. King Roger is still in line for his 4th consecutive US Open victory (which hasen't been done since 1920) and 12th Grand Slam Titel overall! Plus it would make him the winner of 3 out of 4 GS in a year for the second year in a row!!! Only two matches remaining...

3. Baseball season is drawing to a close and with the Giants nowhere near a playoff hunt I personally can't wait for the playoffs to start... or watching how much A-Rod gets over 50HR and 150RBI... what a season he's putting together!!

4. NFL Season starts this Thursday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wooooooooo-Hoooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!! Finally those Sunday nights with BBQ and Football are back!!!! Can't wait to see how this season is gonna unfold... Is L.T. going for a new touchdown record again? Will Randy Moss turn into vintage Moss? Is T.O. gonna catch the ball this year? We will find out!

5. Oh and Phil Mickelson finally beat Tiger this year, outlasting him in the last round by two strokes... but somehow Tiger still managed to become second despite three-putting on the last two holes Saturday and using 31 putts on sunday... Let's see what's up this week, on the third of four events of the new FedExCup

We had our National Team season end party here a week ago and this was the view the morning after... no chance for a hangover!!!

... of course there are many reasons but name me any other sport where a team can win 1-0 or they can do this !!!! Crazy shit!!!

This is playstation baseball happening in real life, just imagine Switzerland beating The Netherlands 30-3 instead of 2-1 last night or Kobe pulling of an NBA Jam type dunk with a triple summersault!!!

Tiger Woods wins Major #13!!!

With a record tying 63 in the 2nd round, Tiger set the stage for his 4th PGA Championship victory early on. He backed it up with two solid rounds of 69, which brought him to -8 for the tourney and 2 strokes clear of the field (Woddy Austin -6, Ernie Els -5). Tiger has now won 13 Majors as a Pro, with "only" 5 left to tie Jack Nicklaus for the all time lead (18)!!

Ok, i promised there will be more on this years EUC and before I'll post more pictures I want to share my Top 3 Moments with you all...

Nr. 3: Celebrating Swiss National Day (1. Aug) with a nightly BBQ at the Camping, with our Womens Team and the Juniors!! We spent a great night with tons of food, great atmosphere, lots of chatter and even a FIREWORK!!!! Thanks a lot Juniors and Friends for organising!!!! Hope I'll get my hands on the group picture at some point!

Nr. 2: Storming the field after our Ladies won their Quarters vs. Italy, shortly after we crushed Ireland 17-4 to secure our Spot in the Semis!!! Actually we stormed the fields about 2-3 times as we followed the last 6-7 points... it was just too exciting ;-)

Nr. 1: Storming our own field after beating Finnland 17-10 and celebrate with the whole Swiss delegation on the field!!! Thanks for cheering and thanks Swiss Ultimate for such a wonderful experience!!!!!!!

BARRY BONDS did it!! He's the new Home Run King as of Aug. 7th when he crushed a 3-2 Pitch into the stands off of Washington National's Pitcher Mike Bacsik.

We did it!!! As almost 40% predicted right on my survey about how Switzerland would do at EUC, we won a Medal!!!! After a week of close losses and convincing victories, we came even close of playing in the finals!!!!!

We startet the week with an important and strong victory over Belgium on day 1, followed by an close call against Sweden (17-14 loss, first time we ever came close to win against them) and another win over Austria.

This put us in the top bracket, into another 4 team pool with Finnland, GB and surprising Russia. Top two here would have a guaranted spot in Quarters, with the other two having to play pre-Quartes against the top teams from the lower bracket.

We missed a big chance against the Finns, not bringing a 5-2 into half time (8-9 them) and losing this top-level game 16-14 in front of a huge and stunned crowd. This defo left us wanting more... Next day saw a victory over Russia and a clear loss to GB, which left us in pre-Quarters vs. Italy, with Cinderella Story Ireland waiting in Quarters.

And that's were we turned up the heat :-)) We finally started clicking on all cylinders, which clearly was too much for Italy (17-3) and Ireland (17-4). So after a day of truly impressive play, we were in Semi's, together with European powerhouses Finnland, Sweden and GB!!

So there it was, our chance for European Finals vs. GB again, who beat 17-9 in pool play which seemed ages ago... We quickly took the lead and in a first half with almost perfect Offense from both sides we had the disc twice to for a second break to make it 9-6. Instead GB scored what might have been the turning point of the match. We still took half 9-7 but then they scored 3 in a row, which left us trailing for the first time. We never took the lead again, nor could we stop their Offense. Final score was 17-14 them, which left us with 1 last shot at the fullfilment of our medal dream - the game for Bronze!

And what a game it was!!! With steely determination and the knowledge that a loss here could not have been made up for by anything, we delivered another great performance!!! Yet again we took an early lead, but this time we never looked back. We managed to make all the big plays and were simply on fire in the second half cheered on by our Ladies who won Bronze as well and our Juniors. Final result: 17-10!!! Switzerland 3rd!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Third best Ultimate Nation in Europe!!!

Yep, that's right... our first game is gonna be in 2 days against Belgium!! And i'm sitting at home already packed and will leave for Zurich Airport in about 2 hours. I've been sick over the last few days, but now I feel a lot better and I'm so excited and ready to go!!!!

European Ultimate Championships ahead

Our quest to bring home the first Medal ever for a Swiss National Team starts on July 28 in Southampton.
